We are delighted to welcome a new member on BLDP’s Board of Directors. Dr. Kenneth Kuanling Fan, Taipei Taiwan and Shanghai, China, is a true man of the world. Born in mainland China, raised in Taiwan and schooled in the United States, attending Utah State University, where he gained his PhD in Science Management and Humanities, and University of Columbia. Dr Fan Kuanling is a world renowned poet, painter and calligrapher who is also known for his creativity knowledge in management sciences, computer sciences and humanities. Famous for being the creator of poetic painting, he is the United Poets Laureate International’s (UPLI) Vice President Asia, and President of the 19th World Congress of Poets, the first ever to be held in China. He was also the president of the first ever World Congress of Culture and Arts in Tai An, Shandong, China and the World Congress of Culture and Arts in Beijing, China. Dr Fan is now leading the World Culture Tourism Ambassador program and co-chairing the World Ambassador of Harmony, in support of the UNESCO International Year of Rapprochement. He is a member of UN-DESA Beautiful Life Development Plan Foundation’s Board of Directors, hoping to bring his contribution to give the people of the world a beautiful life.

He has received recognition and awards from many leaders of the world. Fan Kuanling, recognised as being one of Taiwan’s top three all round scholars, has been nominated for the Nobel prize for literature three times. He earned several important awards, including the Golden Award of Art and the Excellence in Poetry Award which he received during the 20th World Congress of Poets held in Montgomery, Alabama, USA, in recognition of his painting and poetic talent. In September, 2009, he received the distinguished honor of International Ambassador of the Arts from Artists Embassy International based in San Francisco, California.
He is called “the Father of Computers” in China since he coined the term “computer” in Chinese language. As a visionary, he knew the former Chinese term (literally, “electronic calculating machine”) was not fitting compared to all the things achievable with such a machine, and found the equivalent of “electronic brain” much more relevant. The future proved him right.

His political influence has been recognized and his role described as historical in the ice breaking of the relationship between Taiwan and Beijing, as he led the 1st delegation from the island to mainland China on the 18th of June 1988. Convinced that the world should now be able to meet the needs of the global population, Dr Fan believes a better world is achievable. Indeed, the improvement of the world depends on a better understanding of the people, on the acceptance of other cultures, but above all on mutual trust.

Throughout his professional life, Dr Fan has been working in more than 60 countries, givig lecres o taking part into research projects. The accomplishments of his career have been acclaimed by a large number of people, including China’s General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Hu Jintao, Former US president George Bush Senior, and emissary Anna Chan Chennault (Chen Xiangmei), Despite all the awards and the deserved recognition he has received, Dr Fan is a simple man, who enjoys the simple things of life, such as receiving guests for dinner. He currently paints, writes poems and devotes himself to the writing of a new book.

Dr Fan is a man who sticks to his convictions, and commits into what he believes is right. He holds dear values such as respect, trust and friendship, and wants to contribute to the improvement of life for everyone.

Dr Kenneth Fan Kuangling has met a large number of the global leaders and the world most beautiful minds, such as the ex-secondary Chairman Admiral Chi Hao Tian, former France President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, amateur of New Poetry, Poland President, Lech Walesa, former Republic of China’s President Li Denghui, former Republic of China vice-president Lian Zhan or Nicaragua former President. He also met Mr. Zhu Rong Ji, global celebrity Anna Chenault, Chairman of the World Congress of Poets, who collected Doctor’s painting (flower), or Chairman Yu Song who collected his Calligraphy.

So far, he has published 30 books on Computer and Management, and 20 books of Chinese and English Poetry. He won the Shakespeare Literature Prize, the Kingdom of Thailand Computer Prize, the England Royal International Outstanding Achievement Prize, the University of California Distinguished Scholar Prize, and has also been nominated three times for the Nobel Prize in Literature.

By now, he is the Chairman for Global Chinese Industry and Commerce Assistance Association, Taiwan Chinese Cultural Association, General Chairman of the Chinese Industry and Commerce Management Association Worldwide and Academician of the American University of California.
