May 27th
Invited by Jeniffer Young, on behalf of BLDP, to be the keynote speaker for the Voice of the Youth Bilingual Speech Contest, on the 1st of June, Dr Mae C. Jemison arrived in Shanghai this morning. Dr Jemison was the first African American woman to travel in to space when she went into orbit aboard the Endeavour space shuttle in 1992. She was welcomed by Peter Yong and Jason Cheung who have been working closely to SAGE Culture, the event’s executive agency. Dr Jemison is the founder of the Dorothy Jemison Foundation of Excellence, which includes projects such as The Earth We Share. She was accompanied by her foundation’s executive director, Juliea Robinson-Nelson. The Earth We Share organizes an international science camp where students, aged 12 to 16, work to solve current global problems, like "How Many People Can the Earth Hold" and "Predict the Hot Public Stocks of The Year 2030." The four-week residential program helps students build critical thinking and problem solving skills through an experiential curriculum.
